The Experience

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

When dining at a nice restaurant, it’s more than the food and presentation that makes for an experience. It’s the ambience, the wait staff, the manager and those little extras that will motivate us to tell others. There’s a charming restaurant in an old house in Littleton, CO that has amazing food and ambience. The main reason I like to go there is because of Lou – he is a poet/actor/waiter. He has so many poems in his head that he can recite one for just about any occasion.  Yes, the food is great, yes the ambience is great – but it’s Lou that keeps me coming back. He adds immensely to the dining experience. It’s the same with a website. You want more than just a pretty picture sitting there. You want people to keep coming back and buying your products or using your services because of the experience.

How can you enhance the “experience” the visitor will have at your website?

Sizzlin’ SEO Deals and Slicer-Dicers

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Several times a day I’ll get an email or phone call from a client asking if I have heard of “SEO Company #3,000”. They are guaranteeing top placement in the search engines for only $29 or $229 or some other enticing amount. Isn’t that a smokin’ deal? What do you think I should do? Hmmm, hang with me while I muse about this.

Hey I’m Not Getting ANY Business From My Website

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

My first question when I hear this statement is usually, “What do your statistics look like?” The most common answer, “I don’t know, I don’t look at statistics”. Every website should have Google Analytics – it’s free and will show you exactly how many visitors you are getting, what pages they are going to, where they are coming from, etc. It takes us 15 minutes to install on your website. Statistics are a roadmap for you to use in making adjustments to your website or marketing activities. Statistics not your thing? One of our services is Quarterly Stats Review and Recommendations. Many of you find this to be valuable in planning your marketing and advertising strategies – both on and offline.

Why is it important to Validate Code?

It is our standard practice to validate code on sites we design. The reason we do this is to ensure your web pages are interpreted in the same way (the way you want) by various machines, search engines, as well as users and visitors to your webpage.

Choosing Website Colors

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

XXL pencils with pathDo you know how powerful the colors are on a website? Colors make a first impression and also evoke emotions. Sometimes a simple change of colors on a website can create a whole new look and feel while keeping the same basic design.

It’s a good idea to have the colors of your logo be represented on the website. This creates a branding image in the mind of your customers. Whenever we see yellow & red & the golden arches we know what famous fast food chain that represents.

As with everything, there are positives and negatives to each color. Knowing your target audience will determine which colors you’ll choose to convey. When you’re appealing to a global audience, knowing the color meanings of different cultures will be beneficial. See a Cultural Color Chart.

Search Engine Demographics

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

browser-windowsWhenever I do a workshop or speaking engagement I ask the audience, “What search engine do you use for finding sites and information?” I’m often surprised at the responses and almost always learn about one or two search engines that I’ve never heard of before. Google, MSN & Yahoo remain in the top three so I’ll summarize some of the data for those.

Google is preferred by males and Google users are 43 percent more likely to buy online over other Internet users.

MSN is preferred by females and those 55 and over prefer this search engine. MSN users are 48 percent more likely to purchase than other Internet users.

Yahoo! users make up the 18-34-year-old segment and are 31 percent more likely to make online purchases.

As a web marketer how will you use this useful information?
