Words That Speak and Sell

Simplicity
Make your web content sound simple. Try not to use difficult and confusing words. The visitors should get your message immediately. They are not going to make much effort to understand if you are being too academic. They would simply click away and you may lose a potential sale.

Your Website Copy must APPEAR easy to read before your visitors start reading it. Use an easy to read layout for your web content. Bullet points are very effective. People scan rather than read online.

Conversational
Use a consistent style of writing throughout your website. Getting the right tone is treading a fine line. Too formal, and the website seems cold and inhuman. Too informal, and the site can seem frenetic, erratic and pushy. Write in a friendly and interesting manner. Don’t sound boring and impersonal. Your visitors should enjoy reading your web content and get hooked into it.

Make website copy sound informative and professional to your customer at one time, and entertaining and friendly at another.

Every Website Needs SEO

Each site we design has built-in SEO – meaning it is optimized for the search engines. Your site will have relevant titles, meta descriptions and meta tags that are different on each page. The way you can tell what is working is to check your statistics. The results are right there in black and white. If there are new phrases that people are typing in to find your site, then consider adding those to your meta tags. Your statistics reveal so much about your website and traffic. (more…)

The Experience

When dining at a nice restaurant, it’s more than the food and presentation that makes for an experience. It’s the ambience, the wait staff, the manager and those little extras that will motivate us to tell others. There’s a charming restaurant in an old house in Littleton, CO that has amazing food and ambience. The main reason I like to go there is because of Lou – he is a poet/actor/waiter. He has so many poems in his head that he can recite one for just about any occasion.  Yes, the food is great, yes the ambience is great – but it’s Lou that keeps me coming back. He adds immensely to the dining experience. It’s the same with a website. You want more than just a pretty picture sitting there. You want people to keep coming back and buying your products or using your services because of the experience.

Hey I’m Not Getting ANY Business From My Website

My first question when I hear this statement is usually, “What do your statistics look like?” The most common answer, “I don’t know, I don’t look at statistics”. Every website should have Google Analytics – it’s free and will show you exactly how many visitors you are getting, what pages they are going to, where they are coming from, etc. It takes us 15 minutes to install on your website. I typed in “Web Marketing” and got these titles: 8 Reasons to Fear Web Marketing, The 10 Commandments of Web Marketing and 10 Common Misconceptions About Web Marketing. It can be used in a couple of ways. I like to use it AFTER I’ve written an article to come up with a catchy title for it. OR you can use it BEFORE as an idea generator for an article you’d like to write. After you try it, send me a link to your article or blog post and I’ll print it in the next Muse News.

Their website is awesome! It’s simple and interactive. Check out the section that says Create Your Own Stach Comic. And by the way, their nuts are really good and addicting.

I think they’ve done an ingenious job of marketing. Is there some way you can add this type of humor into what you are doing? Their name is very catchy and memorable. The navigation on the website is funny too. They just recently added an online store where you can buy nuts by the case. I can think of several people who would get a real laugh out of getting these as a gift. Have some fun playing around their site and maybe it will spark some ideas for your own web site!

I would say YES and it’s so much more. There are over 6,500 “plug-ins” or features and more being added. Our clients that are using WordPress are just delighted at how easy it is to update their own sites, add images or upload videos. If you don’t have a WordPress site yet, then we can install links via www.cushycms.com for you to update pages in your site.

Why is it important to Validate Code?

It is our standard practice to validate code on sites we design. The reason we do this is to ensure your web pages are interpreted in the same way (the way you want) by various machines, search engines, as well as users and visitors to your webpage.

Total home and room makeovers, body makeovers from losing weight to plastic surgery, wardrobe makeovers, cosmetic makeovers from new hair to new teeth. We seem to be fascinated with improvements and making things better. Below are top five questions to ask yourself and you’ll know for certain when your website needs a makeover.

  1. If it was designed more than 3 years ago, it most likely needs a new look. Technology has changed with programs, coding and search engines. Also, people want instant gratification so text-heavy, slow-loading sites are a thing of the past.
  2. If you had a friend or relative design your site. There is much more to designing an effective website than creating a Word document or Illustrator drawing. Friends or relatives most likely will not have extensive knowledge and experience with html coding, search engines and usability. marketingPretend you are opening a store in a busy shopping mall. As a savvy business owner you will budget for the monthly rent, utilities, security, signage, advertising, marketing, fixtures and inventory. Will you expect to begin making money the minute your doors are open for business?

As a website owner, let’s use the retail store analogy – you invest money in the building of the website or the retail storefront. Next, you open your doors for business or your website goes “live”. The thinking is that once the website is built, the search engines should find you immediately and the cash register will start ringing. Is this realistic? Why are online expectations so drastically unrealistic from offline expectations?
